My wife and I are buying a new house in MD where the state and county transfer taxes will be about $8000. We are going to close in December this year, but will probably take a standard deduction. Can we deduct the property transfer tax even though we are going to take the standard deduction this year? Are transfer taxes deductions or credits?

I was a former employee of a construction company and always told the boss that we did not have the funds for taxes and that he needed to put money in the bank. I was an acting office manager but never signed any documents stating I was in charge. I told the accountant that I could not pay the amount and I told the bookkeeper as well. I now have a letter from the IRS asking me to meet with them! I am terrified!
I filed my taxes in Mid-January. Last week conress announced that every tax paying adult will recieve $600 and $300 per child, in an attempt to avoid a recession. Since my taxes were already filed, am I not entitled to this extra tax break?

My brother died in May 2007. He left behind a 2 year old daughter who lives with my parents who have guardianship of her.
Do they:
1. File their taxes as usual and claim my niece on their taxes as a dependent? or
2. File taxes on behalf of my brother and claim her on his taxes? or
3. Do they even need to file taxes on his behalf?
We’ve tried looking online on the IRS website and can’t find anything pertaining to this situation.
Any suggestions?
I am completing a 3 month internship in Idaho, but will return to California upon completion. What is the best way to file taxes? Idaho’s state taxes are actually higher than Cali, so I would like to avoid them. Someone else mentioned they are just having their taxes withheld by their originating state, Is this possible? Of course, I would like to have the least taxes taken out, so if there is anyway I can pay only California taxes on the money I would love to know how?
